Self-Respect Has a Skincare Routine: Boundaries, Beauty, and the RIMAN Mindset

Some women disappear when they marry. Others rush toward their wedding like it’s a photo shoot instead of a life commitment. Both extremes highlight the same problem—a mindset built on convenience, not care.

Self-Respect Has a Skincare Routine: Boundaries, Beauty, and the RIMAN Mindset

The Inconvenient Change Mindset: When Self-Care is Abandoned

Throughout my career as an esthetician, I’ve encountered thousands of women with what I call an "Inconvenient Change Mindset." When single, they pay moderate attention to their skincare—occasional facials, semi-invasive treatments, healthy eating, and light exercise. But what happens when they get married, or their career takes off? Many disappear. Some return only after personal or professional collapse, looking to rebuild their self-esteem through self-care.

This is not a cultural problem. It’s a universal one. Women across backgrounds tend to deprioritize their well-being when life shifts. And it shows—emotionally, physically, spiritually. It’s not laziness. It’s a mindset rooted in misplaced priorities and a lack of personal boundaries.

Beauty as Boundaries: A Tactical Reframe

Why Self-Respect Should Have a Skincare Routine? Boundaries, Beauty, and the RIMAN Mindset

Real self-care isn’t about luxury or a vain skincare routine. It’s about leadership.  It’s about self-respect. It’s a reflection of the boundaries we uphold with ourselves. When we neglect the mirror, we often neglect our voice, our choices, our boundaries, and our space.

That’s why I say self-respect has a skincare routine. Because it’s never just about skin. It’s about identity. Every step—cleansing, nourishing, resting—is a declaration of: I matter.

Personal Care Is a Culture, Not a Trend

We’ve reached two extremes: women who neglect care post-marriage, and young women obsessed with aesthetics for short-term gains. Both are reactive. Both are unsustainable.

We must instead build a culture of proactive, ritualized care—an identity-level habit that transcends trends. This means raising daughters who learn self-worth through consistent action. This means showing up for ourselves, especially when life gets chaotic.

Tactical Skincare as a Strategy

When I started my business, I faced financial hardship. My daughter wore worn-out shoes. My father, who had never helped me financially, handed me a bill and said, “You have to eat first. If you’re well, your daughter will be too.”

That was a turning point. I realized self-care wasn’t about vanity. It was about thriving. Strategy. Presence. Resilience. Self-care became my armor—and my authority.
